Trend Micro has unveiled its first consumer security solutions for AI PCs, focusing on AI application protection and NPU-powered email security, set to launch in late 2024. These innovations aim to address new privacy and performance challenges as AI PCs become more prevalent.
6 June 2024 – Trend Micro Incorporated, a global cybersecurity leader, has announced its inaugural consumer security solutions designed to counter emerging threats in the AI PC era, set to launch in late 2024.
Carla Rodriguez, VP and GM of Client Software Ecosystem Enabling at Intel, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are excited to partner with Trend Micro on AI solutions that leverage our next-generation Intel Core Ultra processors (code-named Lunar Lake). Trend Micro will be the first to utilize Lunar Lake’s 48 NPU Tops in their email defense feature to perform scans locally, enhancing user privacy and security while reducing latency. Intel’s broad and open ecosystem, coupled with its unmatched scale, provides AI ISVs like Trend Micro with unique opportunities. We look forward to driving their solutions to users adopting AI-capable PCs rooted in security.”
The inclusion of Intel in Trend Micro’s ecosystem reflects the company’s commitment to boundary-free innovation. As Trend Micro continues to prioritize AI and other emerging technologies, collaboration with industry leaders remains crucial.
Kevin Simzer, COO of Trend Micro, emphasized the dual focus on leveraging and securing AI: “The value of the AI era will depend on its security, from enterprises to individual consumers. Trend Micro is addressing both areas, unlike many others in the industry.”
AI PCs, equipped with neural processing units (NPUs), enable consumers to run AI applications locally, offering significant privacy and performance advantages. However, these advancements also introduce new risks. Trend Micro is addressing these through new capabilities showcased at Computex 2024:
- AI Application Protection: Traditional cybersecurity solutions are insufficient for protecting consumer AI applications from threats like model tampering or knowledge base poisoning. Trend Micro’s AI application protection aims to mitigate these risks, safeguarding users’ sensitive information and preventing misinformation. This capability will be integrated into device security products in 2024.
- NPU-Powered Email Security: Previously, email content had to be analyzed in the cloud due to computing power constraints. With AI PCs, Trend Micro can now perform email scam protection locally, enhancing user experience and privacy. This feature is expected to see a significant usage increase and will be included in Trend Micro’s 2024 device security solutions.
