MDEC CEO Datuk Mahadhir Aziz Completes Tenure, Leaving Legacy of Digital Transformation and Growth

Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz concludes his impactful tenure as CEO of MDEC, having secured RM 170 billion in digital investments and led significant digital transformation initiatives. MDEC will continue its strategic direction under interim leadership as it seeks a new CEO.


28 August 2024 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced the successful conclusion of Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz’s three-year tenure as CEO, which will officially end on 31 August 2024. As Datuk Mahadhir transitions to new opportunities, his departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for MDEC, building upon the solid foundation of transformation that he established.

Appointed in September 2021, Datuk Mahadhir has been instrumental in strengthening MDEC’s role as a key player in Malaysia’s digital landscape. His leadership has driven MDEC to secure over RM 170 billion in digital investments and create more than 85,000 technology jobs. He played a crucial role in transitioning the MSC initiative into Malaysia Digital (MD), spearheading strategic digital investments and launching significant national programs, including the digital nomad visa.

During his tenure, MDEC not only surpassed its objectives but also fostered the adoption of e-Commerce by over 1.5 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and recorded RM144 billion in digitalisation investments.

With Datuk Mahadhir stepping down, MDEC remains committed to its strategic direction. A Management Council has been established to manage the CEO’s responsibilities during the interim period until a successor is appointed.
