Kaspersky’s report highlights a substantial increase in data-stealing malware incidents, with nearly 10 million devices compromised in 2023 alone, necessitating heightened cybersecurity measures.
8 April 2024 – In a recent report by Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, findings indicate a troubling escalation in data-stealing malware incidents, with nearly 10 million devices compromised in 2023 alone. Drawing from insights gleaned from infostealer malware log files traded on underground markets, the report underscores the growing threat posed to both individuals and businesses by cybercriminals pilfering login credentials at an average rate of 50.9 per infected device.
The report highlights key statistics, including the dominance of the .com domain in compromised accounts, followed by domain zones associated with Brazil, India, Colombia, and Vietnam. Notably, the .my domain, linked to Malaysia, recorded 1.6 million compromised accounts in 2023.
Furthermore, projections indicate that the number of infections is set to soar, reaching approximately 16 million, underscoring the imperative for heightened cybersecurity measures. Sergey Shcherbel, an expert at Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, emphasizes the critical need for individuals and companies to remain vigilant against the burgeoning threat landscape, as leaked credentials carry a significant risk of enabling cybercriminal activities.
To mitigate the risks associated with data-stealing malware, Kaspersky advocates for the use of comprehensive security solutions and proactive monitoring to detect and address potential breaches promptly.
