E-commerce Sites in Vietnam Must Register with Local Government to Avoid Penalty

Jan 2, 2014 (Thu): The Decree No 185 of the Vietnamese Government which came into effect yesterday will make enterprises and individuals who operating unregistered ecommerce businesses with Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) fined VND10-100 million and VND10-50 million respectively. The registered ecommerce business also will be fined if they do not report changes of information on their registered websites. Besides penalty, the businesses violated the regulation also will be suspected for operating the business from six to twelve months.

According to Vietnam News report, currently more than 200 e-commerce websites have registered their business operations and more than 100 websites providing e-commerce services have also registered. However, there were still thousands of websites not completing their registrations.
