40 per cent growth in Malaysia’s e-Debit transactions forecasted

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Electronic Corp Sdn Bhd (MyClear), a subsidiary wholly-owned by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) is collaborating with Selayang Mall shopping centre to run e-Debit Campaign until end of year 2012, to encourage the consumers to use e-Debit to transact for their purchase by offering attractive gifts to e-Debit users.

MyClear managing director Mohd Suhail Amar Suresh said that this initiative is in line with with the objective of the Financial Sector Blueprint by BNM in positioning e-payments as the preferred medium for economic transactions in the country. MyClear forecasted e-Debit transaction will grow 40 per cent this year, Suhail added.

e-Debit is financial service provides convenience to the consumers as they will only need to bring their ATM card for purchases. E-Debit is chip-based ATM cards issued by Malaysian banks. As of Q3 2011, e-Debit recorded over 2.3 million in value and approximately RM1.08 billion in value and there are over 128,000 debit card terminals nationwide.
