vivo Launches Android 15 Beta Program for X100 and iQOO 12 Smartphones with Enhanced Performance, Privacy, and Battery Life

vivo introduces the Android 15 Beta Program for X100 and iQOO 12 smartphones, offering developers early access to test and adapt their applications. Android 15 brings enhancements in application performance, security, privacy protection, battery life, and performance optimization, ensuring a superior user experience.

15 May 2024 – vivo has announced the commencement of the Android 15 Beta Program for its X100 and iQOO 12 smartphones in selected countries and regions. This program, starting from May 15, 2024, allows vivo developers early access to test and adapt their applications for the upcoming Android version, introducing a host of changes and features aimed at delivering a smoother overall experience, enhanced privacy and security protection, and optimized battery life.

Enhanced Application Performance and Smoother Experiences

Android 15 brings significant improvements in application performance, featuring advanced PDF rendering capabilities, a new media file processing method, and optimized database operations. The PdfRenderer API in Android 15 now supports rendering of password-protected files, annotations, form editing, and search, along with linear PDF optimization for faster viewing and reduced resource usage. This empowers developers to create applications offering seamless and efficient PDF viewing, editing, and searching.

Additionally, Android 15 introduces a new foreground service type called mediaProcessing, allowing uninterrupted media file transcoding even when the app is in the background. This ensures a seamless user experience, especially for media applications requiring file format conversions.

Moreover, new SQLite APIs in Android 15 offer advanced features to maintain optimal performance as app data grows, addressing specific performance issues that may arise.

Robust Security and Privacy Protection

With Android 15, vivo emphasizes user privacy and security by introducing new APIs aimed at safeguarding files from tampering and corruption. The FileIntegrityManager leverages the fs-verity feature in the Linux kernel, enabling developers to protect files with custom cryptographic signatures, enhancing application functionality and data integrity.

Optimized Battery Life and Performance

Android 15 brings improvements in battery life and performance by enhancing the interaction between apps and the device’s power and thermal systems. The Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF) introduces new features, including a power-efficiency mode for long-running background tasks, GPU and CPU runtime reporting, and thermal headroom thresholds to manage thermal constraints effectively.

Partnering for a Superior User Experience

vivo collaborates with developers to ensure a smooth transition to Android 15. The Android 15 Beta Program is available for vivo X100 in countries including India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan, and for iQOO 12 in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India.
