Taobao Malaysia reports a 70 percent rise in searches for home organisation and hosting essentials ahead of Hari Raya, reflecting a growing shift toward online platforms for festive preparation. The trend highlights how Malaysians are increasingly blending digital shopping with traditional celebrations.
MALAYSIA, 17 MARCH 2026 – As Malaysians prepare for the Hari Raya celebrations, new insights from Taobao Malaysia reveal a growing shift in festive shopping behaviour, with online platforms playing a more prominent role in how households prepare for gatherings and open houses.
In the weeks leading up to the festivities, searches for home organisation and hosting essentials on Taobao Malaysia rose by 70 percent. The increase reflects how many households are focusing on streamlining meal preparation, organising living spaces for visiting relatives and creating welcoming environments for festive gatherings.
Consumer engagement was also visible offline during Taobao Pesta Raya, a three-day experiential activation held at MyTOWN Shopping Centre. The event attracted more than 20,000 visitors, demonstrating strong interest in the platform and growing adoption of its mobile application among Malaysian shoppers.
According to Taobao Malaysia, the surge in activity also reflects a broader shift in festive spending habits. Instead of focusing solely on seasonal decorations, many consumers are now prioritising practical home solutions that offer long-term value beyond the festive period.
Categories such as food storage organisers, kitchen organisers, lighting solutions and flexible furniture have seen particularly strong interest. These products support adaptable, multi-functional living spaces, aligning with a growing consumer preference for versatility, durability and everyday utility.
Jess Lew, Country Head of Taobao Malaysia, said the trend illustrates how Malaysians increasingly turn to e-commerce platforms not just for convenience but also for inspiration when preparing their homes for festive occasions.
She noted that festive preparations often involve many small yet meaningful details, from organising kitchens for large-scale cooking to setting up comfortable spaces for guests during open house gatherings. As more shoppers explore online platforms for such preparations, e-commerce is becoming more deeply integrated into everyday celebrations.
The Taobao Pesta Raya activation also highlighted the evolving retail landscape, where digital discovery is increasingly connected with physical experiences. The event featured a wide range of products from home essentials to lifestyle items, reflecting Taobao’s extensive marketplace selection.
Visitors were able to interact with product showcases and explore features such as image search and QR-enabled shopping journeys, creating a more seamless path between product discovery and purchase. The activation also encouraged first-time downloads of the Taobao app, demonstrating how festive seasons such as Hari Raya serve as important moments for both shopping and digital adoption.
Meanwhile, Taobao Malaysia’s Raya sales campaign will continue until 20 March 2026, offering shoppers additional opportunities to discover curated festive home solutions and gather inspiration for their celebrations.
