TalentCorp, under the Ministry of Human Resources, has launched the MyHeart initiative to engage Malaysians abroad in national development, including a significant partnership to enhance STEM education in Sabah and a new programme to support aspiring startup entrepreneurs. These efforts aim to leverage the expertise of the Malaysian diaspora for the country’s advancement.
19 June 2024 – Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), is intensifying its efforts to engage Malaysians abroad in contributing to national development. Through the Malaysia at Heart (MyHeart) initiative, TalentCorp is offering a platform for Malaysians worldwide to actively participate in various national projects.
In a recent event held in London, attended by 300 Malaysians living in the United Kingdom, YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, Minister of Human Resources, and Nazrul Aziz, TalentCorp Group Chief Strategy Officer, highlighted the agency’s commitment by presenting a batik piece designed by UK-based Malaysian artist Shirlyn Low of #BatikYing.
The MyHeart initiative includes a partnership with Social Value Malaysia (SVM) to support the Invest4Good programme for Lahad Datu, Sabah, set to commence in August. TalentCorp will allocate £10,000 (approximately RM60,000) for this collaboration, aimed at empowering 60 schoolteachers to train over 120 primary and secondary school students in Robotics and AI fundamentals.
“The TalentCorp MyHeart initiative reaffirms KESUMA’s dedication to talent and human capital development, involving Malaysians both within and outside the country. The Invest4Good for Sabah plays a crucial role in expanding STEM education opportunities for our schoolchildren. We are proud to support Malaysians abroad eager to contribute their expertise for the benefit of Malaysia,” said Minister Sim.
SVM, co-founded by Malaysians Dr. Jane Chang and Professor Dr. Ainurul Rosli from Brunel University London, is a social impact enterprise focused on growing Malaysia’s impact investment ecosystem. Both co-founders are also board members of the Malaysia Impact Alliance (MyImpact), an NGO dedicated to the country’s impact investment growth.
During the same event, Minister Sim announced the launch of MyHeart Innovate, a three-month programme for Malaysians abroad who aim to establish sustainable and scalable startups in Malaysia. This initiative, in collaboration with Cradle and BEYOND4, provides aspiring entrepreneurs with a structured pathway to acquire entrepreneurial skills, market insights, and access to mentors, industry experts, and potential funding.
“Our goal is to enable Malaysians to contribute to the country, whether they choose to return or stay abroad,” said Minister Sim.
Malaysians overseas can apply for the TalentCorp MyHeart Innovate programme, while those in Malaysia can join its counterpart, TalentCorp MyNext Innovate.
The MyHeart initiative serves as a bridge for the Malaysian diaspora, aiming to harness their potential contributions to Malaysia’s progress. It operates through five key modules: collaborations, global networking, career opportunities, and incentives for returning Malaysians.
TalentCorp’s MyHeart initiative complements its various efforts to foster human capital development within Malaysia, targeting skilled professionals, women, veterans, undergraduates, and school students. Together, these initiatives aim to optimize Malaysian talent and establish a dynamic talent hub in Malaysia.
