TalentCorp Malaysia and NSDC International have signed an MoU to enhance digital skilling solutions for Malaysian youth, strengthening Malaysia-India relations. The partnership will focus on digitalizing Malaysia’s talent ecosystem and introducing verifiable digital credentials for Indian nationals working in Malaysia.
22 August 2024 – Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), a key agency under Malaysia’s Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), has solidified a strategic partnership with NSDC International, a subsidiary of India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is set to deliver advanced digital skilling solutions aimed at equipping Malaysian youth with the skills needed for the future, while simultaneously enhancing Malaysia-India relations and advancing skill development initiatives across both nations.
The MoU was signed by Thomas Mathew, Group CEO of TalentCorp, and Ved Mani Tiwari, MD and CEO of NSDC International, at a ceremony held at NSDC’s headquarters. The event was witnessed by Malaysia’s Minister of Human Resources, YB Steven Sim Chee Keong, and India’s Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, YB Jayant Chaudhary.
This latest MoU builds on an initial agreement made in March 2023 between TalentCorp and NSDC, which led to the establishment of TalentCorp’s MyMAHIR Future Skills Talent Councils (FSTC). These industry-driven councils play a crucial role in identifying the evolving skill needs across various sectors and guiding the necessary training to ensure that Malaysia’s talent pool is equipped with both current and future competencies.
To date, six FSTCs have been formed, covering sectors such as Electrical & Electronics (E&E), Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Aerospace, Biopharma & Manufacturing, Food Manufacturing Services, and Global Services & Data Centres. Four additional councils are expected to be launched by September 2024.
YB Steven Sim highlighted the importance of this partnership in enhancing the skills of Malaysian youth. He noted that training programs tailored by KESUMA and guided by the FSTCs have already resulted in participants earning 10-15% higher salaries, demonstrating the strong correlation between enhanced skills and increased productivity.
The renewed partnership between TalentCorp and NSDC International will focus on two key areas: digitalizing Malaysia’s talent ecosystem through knowledge-sharing and collaboration in NSDC’s Skills India Digital Hub, and introducing verifiable digital credentials for Indian nationals working in Malaysia. KESUMA plans to launch a digital platform that will encompass curriculum development, training design, content creation, and certification best practices, aiming to boost youth employment opportunities both within Malaysia and globally.
Adapting the successful model of India’s Skill India Digital Hub, this digital ecosystem will integrate skills, education, employment, and entrepreneurship, presenting a valuable opportunity for Malaysia to drive its AI and digital initiatives forward.
India’s Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, YB Jayant Chaudhary, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating that India’s skill development programs are closely aligned with industry needs, and the partnership with TalentCorp will foster mutual growth and learning opportunities for both countries.
The MoU signing was attended by key figures including Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), as well as senior representatives from KESUMA, TalentCorp, MSDE, and NSDC.
