Snowflake has integrated Malaysia’s sovereign LLM, ILMU, enabling secure, in-country AI deployment with strong data governance. The move is set to accelerate enterprise AI adoption with locally relevant and compliant solutions.

MALAYSIA, 4 MAY 2026 – Snowflake has integrated ILMU, Malaysia’s sovereign large language model developed by YTL AI Labs, into its AI Data Cloud platform, enabling organisations to deploy generative AI securely within the country. Supported by its availability in the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) region, the move allows enterprises to run AI on governed data while meeting strict local data residency and compliance requirements.

The integration positions Snowflake among the first global providers to support a locally developed sovereign LLM in a fully in-country deployment. By combining Snowflake’s governance framework with ILMU’s deep understanding of Bahasa Melayu, Manglish, and regional dialects, organisations can build more accurate and culturally relevant AI-driven applications while maintaining enterprise-grade scalability.

ILMU’s localisation capabilities enhance AI performance across industries that require high levels of data sensitivity, including public sector, financial services, telecommunications, and retail. With data processed within national borders, organisations can adopt AI confidently without compromising on governance or security.

The collaboration aligns with Malaysia’s broader push towards strengthening its AI ecosystem, including the RM2 billion Sovereign AI Cloud initiative that emphasises data localisation. Snowflake’s ASEAN leadership highlighted that the integration gives enterprises the confidence to deploy AI solutions that are secure, compliant, and tailored to local language and business contexts.

YTL AI Labs described the integration as a milestone in advancing sovereign AI infrastructure, enabling Malaysian enterprises to access high-performance AI capabilities that are both culturally relevant and legally compliant, while remaining fully hosted within the country.

Industry players have welcomed the development as enterprise AI adoption gains momentum. Ryt Bank is leveraging ILMU and Snowflake to build an AI-powered banking experience that enables customers to interact using natural, culturally nuanced language, while maintaining strict data governance standards. Meanwhile, S P Setia is applying the technology to enhance customer engagement across property journeys, from discovery to management, through AI-driven personalisation.

As more organisations in Malaysia move from experimentation to real-world AI applications, the integration of ILMU into Snowflake’s platform is expected to accelerate adoption of governed, locally attuned AI solutions across the economy.
