Shopee Malaysia is strengthening its consumer education efforts to promote safer online shopping and combat scam risks. The initiative highlights collaboration between government, platforms, and users to build trust in the digital economy.
MALAYSIA, 18 MARCH 2026 – Shopee Malaysia is intensifying its push for online safety and consumer awareness, aiming to help Malaysians better recognise scam tactics and transact securely in an increasingly digital economy.
As online participation grows, the platform emphasises the need for users to stay vigilant by understanding common fraud schemes, safeguarding personal information, and relying on trusted digital channels. Shopee’s ongoing education initiatives are designed to equip consumers with practical knowledge to identify suspicious behaviour and adopt safer online shopping habits.
The company recently showcased these efforts during Hari Pengguna Kebangsaan 2026, organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. The event was officiated by Anwar Ibrahim, where Shopee engaged the public through exhibitions and sharing sessions focused on scam awareness and digital safety practices.
During the event, Shopee highlighted key safety tips, including recognising suspicious links, avoiding impersonation attempts, and not making payments outside official platform channels. Users were also reminded never to share sensitive information such as one-time passwords or banking details, and to report suspicious activities through official support channels.
Nik Emir Din noted that online safety requires a collective effort, stressing the importance of collaboration between government bodies, digital platforms, and consumers. He added that continuous education plays a crucial role in building confidence in digital commerce.
The initiative also received support from Armizan Mohd Ali, who visited Shopee’s exhibition booth. He highlighted that consumer awareness remains a critical line of defence against online scams and encouraged ongoing partnerships to strengthen safe digital commerce practices.
In addition, Shopee used the platform to educate users on how official affiliate links function within its ecosystem, reinforcing the importance of engaging only through legitimate, platform-based channels.
Through these efforts, Shopee Malaysia continues to reinforce its commitment to fostering a safer digital environment, working alongside government and industry partners to enhance trust and resilience in Malaysia’s growing digital economy.
