Terry KS The Philippines – E-commerce platform Shopee Kultura Plus has partnered with media production house FEATR to release Grit Expectations, a docuseries spotlighting Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises that turn local craftsmanship, agriculture, and traditions into sustainable livelihoods.
The series follows the journeys of three homegrown enterprises: Cacao Culture, Organic Options, and FilDogScarf. Each business demonstrates how digital tools can help local operations reach a nationwide audience while retaining their cultural roots and community ties.
Cacao Culture was established by Shiela and Ken Reyes-Lao after moving from Manila to Davao. Discovering the potential of local cacao, the founders developed a platform that currently supports more than twenty Philippine chocolate brands, raising visibility for local cocoa farmers and strengthening the domestic chocolate industry.
Agriculture-focused enterprise Organic Options has spent over twenty-five years partnering with more than three hundred smallholder farmers. Founded by Mike and Malou Melendres, the company focuses on supplying organic produce and healthier rice alternatives. Joining Shopee has enabled the brand to distribute healthy food options to consumers across the Philippine archipelago.
Pet apparel brand FilDogScarf was created by Anilene Atanacio, who drew inspiration from a family history of Filipiniana craftsmanship. Launching her venture with two thousand five hundred pesos, Atanacio handcrafts pet wear featuring traditional designs and manages her online operations through Shopee to reach modern pet owners.
The docuseries emphasizes that scale and traditional preservation can coexist through digital platforms. The episodes of Grit Expectations are currently available for streaming on the official FEATR YouTube channel.
