MALAYSIA, 24 JULY 2026 – redBus, a leading online bus ticketing platform, has announced a strategic partnership with the Terengganu State Tourism Department (Tourism Terengganu) to launch the Terengganu Tourism Digitalisation Initiative, aimed at transforming the state’s tourism ecosystem through digital technology.
The initiative will bring Terengganu’s attractions, tour operators, activity providers, community-based tourism businesses and local SMEs onto redBus’s “Things to Do” platform, allowing them to showcase and sell their experiences to millions of domestic and international travellers through a single online marketplace.
Guided by the vision of bringing Terengganu tourism to the global digital platform together with redBus, participating businesses will receive fully free digital onboarding, including product listings, e-ticketing, inventory management and technical support. This is designed to help local operators reach digitally connected travellers and expand their audience without upfront costs, while overcoming offline booking dependencies and limited digital reach.
The partnership arrives as Terengganu experiences a significant tourism surge, having recorded 2.45 million domestic and international arrivals in the first quarter of 2026. By rapidly digitising local operators, the initiative aims to ensure they are equipped to capture this growing visitor demand.
YB Datuk Razali bin Idris, Committee Chairman of Terengganu State Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change, said that as the state advances Visit Malaysia 2026 and builds momentum toward Visit Terengganu 2027, strengthening the tourism ecosystem goes beyond attracting visitors — it also means ensuring local businesses are ready to benefit from rising demand. He added that the partnership with redBus will help bridge the digital gap, making it easier for tourism operators, SMEs and community-based enterprises to reach a wider audience while creating a more seamless experience for visitors.
The initiative is built around four goals: increasing the visibility of Terengganu’s tourism offerings, simplifying access to local experiences through seamless online booking, empowering local tourism businesses with technology-enabled capabilities, and driving sustainable economic growth for the state.
Tourism Terengganu and redBus will jointly identify and onboard tourism operators across the state before rolling out integrated destination marketing campaigns and cross-selling opportunities through the platform. Participating businesses will gain access to redBus’s global community, along with greater visibility, marketing support and performance insights to grow their online presence.
Krishnan Ramaswami, redBus Chief Business Officer, said digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role in how travellers discover, plan and book trips. He noted that the partnership extends redBus’s convenience beyond transport by helping Terengganu’s tourism businesses become digitally accessible to millions of travellers already using the platform, both within and outside Malaysia.
By combining digital accessibility with destination promotion, the partnership is expected to strengthen Terengganu’s tourism competitiveness, channel more visitor spending into local communities, and build a more resilient and sustainable tourism ecosystem as the state prepares for its next phase of growth.
