redBus Launches Malaysia Food Map to Fuel Culinary Tourism and Local Discovery

redBus, Malaysia’s largest bus ticketing platform, has unveiled the redBus Malaysia Food Map—a dynamic new travel companion spotlighting 40 iconic Malaysian dishes across 160+ eateries to enhance food tourism and local exploration.

MALAYSIA, 17 JULY 2025 – redBus, the world’s and Malaysia’s largest online bus ticketing platform, is redefining travel with the launch of the redBus Malaysia Food Map—an interactive discovery tool that celebrates the nation’s rich culinary diversity by spotlighting 40 iconic dishes across over 160 eateries nationwide.

Designed for both locals and tourists, the Food Map brings Malaysia’s culinary melting pot to life by highlighting the country’s Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan, and indigenous food traditions. Whether it’s street food in Penang or hidden hawker gems in small towns, the map connects travellers with must-try dishes, showcasing the best of Malaysia’s food culture in one place.

“As food tourism gains momentum, we’re going beyond transportation to enrich our customers’ journeys,” said Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus. “The Malaysia Food Map is our tribute to the nation’s culinary legacy and a reflection of how food can enhance travel discovery. It’s a celebration of Malaysia’s flavours and a new way to explore.”

The launch comes at a time when food tourism is booming. According to 2024 data, traveller spending in Malaysia rose 43% year-on-year, with food and beverages ranking among the top three expenditure categories—seeing a notable 52% growth.

Accessible via the redBus app and a dedicated microsite (www.redbus.my/foodmap), the Malaysia Food Map offers a user-friendly, bilingual experience—currently in English and soon to include Bahasa Malaysia. Users can explore curated food listings, access real-time maps with directions, and enjoy exclusive bus ticket discounts to featured food destinations.

To further enhance community involvement, redBus is encouraging foodies to contribute their own hidden gem recommendations via the platform or through redBus’ social media channels on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Contributors will be recognised directly on the map, adding a personal, crowd-sourced touch to the experience.

redBus also plans to spotlight four featured cities each month, complete with promotional fares, driving tourism to regional culinary hotspots and supporting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
