Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo Unite to Redefine Global Air Freight Connectivity

Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo have launched a strategic partnership to enhance global air cargo connectivity, leveraging their respective strengths in fleet capacity and network reach. This alliance, which began in October 2024, is set to revolutionize logistics efficiency and expand market access across Asia, Australia, and beyond.

20 November 2024 – Qatar Airways Cargo, the leading name in air freight, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with MASkargo, the cargo division of Malaysia Aviation Group. This collaboration, which officially commenced on October 1, 2024, promises to revolutionize global air cargo logistics by enhancing connectivity, efficiency, and operational synergies.

The partnership has already facilitated the transport of approximately 2,400 tonnes of cargo, including over 600 tonnes of perishables and 130 tonnes of pharmaceuticals. Qatar Airways Cargo operates Boeing 777 freighters twice weekly from Doha to Kuala Lumpur, adding over 200 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity. Additionally, MASkargo’s Airbus A330 freighters now connect Kuala Lumpur with Sydney and Melbourne, providing more than 75 tonnes of weekly capacity with an eight-hour turnaround time.

Key cargo hubs at Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) are integral to this alliance, offering state-of-the-art facilities for efficient cargo handling. The collaboration also opens new market opportunities for MASkargo in Europe, GCC, Levant, and Africa, while Qatar Airways Cargo strengthens its access to Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.

Qatar Airways Cargo’s Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Mark Drusch, emphasized the partnership’s potential to deliver unparalleled connectivity and customer service. “This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to expanding our global network and ensuring exceptional service,” he stated.

MASkargo’s CEO, Mr. Mark Jason Thomas, highlighted the alliance as a transformative step for MASkargo. “This partnership enhances our capacity and enables us to bridge South East Asia with key international markets more efficiently,” he said.

The partnership is rooted in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2024, allowing both airlines to leverage their strengths in fleet and network capabilities. Beyond cargo, the collaboration reflects broader ties between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines through the oneworld alliance and their extensive passenger codeshare agreement covering 62 destinations globally.

By combining resources and expertise, this strategic partnership sets a new benchmark for excellence in air cargo transportation, benefiting local economies and global markets alike.
