PETRONAS Lubricants International hosted its fifth ‘Success on the Fast Lane’ session, where students gained insights from a Trackside Fluid Engineer for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One team. The session highlighted the vital role of fluid technology in F1 performance and inspired students with real-world engineering knowledge.
15 October 2024 – PETRONAS Lubricants International recently hosted its fifth ‘Success on the Fast Lane’ session, featuring a Trackside Fluid Engineer (PTFE) from the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One (MAMGP F1) team, aimed at inspiring university students with real-world insights into the automotive and motorsport industries. The session, held at PETRONAS Leadership Centre in Bangi, was attended by 150 students from universities such as Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti KL (UniKL), German-Malaysian Institute (GMI), Taylor’s University, and Monash University.
As the Title and Technical Partner of the MAMGP F1 team, PETRONAS, through its Fluid Technology Solutions™, plays a pivotal role in developing winning performance solutions. Trackside fluid engineers conduct critical fluid analysis during F1 races, which informs engineering decisions that enhance car performance. The same innovative technology also translates to the products PETRONAS offers everyday drivers.
During the event, Wan Mohd Saifullah Wan Saudi, a PTFE for the MAMGP F1 team, shared his professional journey, providing students with insights into the intricate relationship between human excellence and precision engineering. Saifullah emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation, explaining how his team’s real-time fluid analysis contributes to maintaining peak engine performance on the track. “Each part of the car is meticulously designed to give us an advantage, and our analysis of fluid data plays a key role in enhancing the car’s performance,” he noted.
Students were inspired by Saifullah’s personal experiences, with one attendee, Marcus Yeoh from Taylor’s University, remarking on how the engineer’s transition from Electrical to Chemical Engineering showed the importance of perseverance and adaptability. Haris Danial from Monash Motorsport Malaysia also shared how Saifullah’s insights on overcoming challenges resonated with his own experiences as a student.

PETRONAS Lubricants International launched the ‘Success on the Fast Lane’ series in 2021 as part of its ‘Shaping Industry-ready Graduates’ initiative, aimed at preparing students for the workforce by connecting them with top industry professionals. Past speakers in the series have included George Russell, an F1 driver for the MAMGP F1 team. The event continues to provide invaluable insights for students interested in pursuing careers in automotive and motorsports engineering.
