Penetration Rate of Broadband Increased to 66.6% in Malaysia

July 30, 2013 (Tue): According to the Communications & Multimedia Pocket Book of Statistics for Q1 2013 published by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the penetration rate of mobile phone subscription per 100 inhabitants as per end of first quarter of 2013 is 143.4% or equivalent of 7.4 million postpaid and 34 million prepaid subscribers. The statistic shows a Malaysian may carry more than one mobile phone.

Meanwhile, the penetration rate for Internet Broadband was reported at 66.6 per cent for the same quarter with total of 4,189,300 private household subscriptions. The top 5 states with highest broadband penetration rate are WP Kuala Lumpur (106.4%), WP Putrajaya (79.5%), Pulau Pinang (79.7%), Selangor (76.4%) and Negeri Sembilan (74.3%).
