Octa Launches STATUS 200 Coding Bootcamp to Empower Underprivileged Students in Kuala Lumpur

Octa is sponsoring the STATUS 200 coding bootcamp at Ideas Academy in Kuala Lumpur, starting June 17, 2024, to provide foundational coding skills to underprivileged youth, supporting Octa’s mission of enhancing financial literacy and educational opportunities in Malaysia.


18 May 2024 – As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for diverse social groups, Octa is sponsoring a coding bootcamp for students of Ideas Academy, an inclusive secondary school in Kuala Lumpur. The STATUS 200 bootcamp, designed specifically for Malaysian students, will be conducted in three stages, with the first stage commencing on June 17, 2024. This initiative aligns with Octa’s mission to promote financial literacy and support various educational projects in Malaysia, providing better growth opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.

The bootcamp aims to impart foundational coding skills to underprivileged young men and women who have little to no prior coding experience. The curriculum will cover HTML & CSS basics, JavaScript, Node.js, Git, and React.js, among other essential topics. The program will feature sessions led by prominent regional experts in coding and artificial intelligence.

Participation Requirements

To be eligible for the first stage of the bootcamp, candidates must:

  • Be aged 16 or older.
  • Be an Octa client or have an adult relative who is a client.
  • Have a personal laptop to complete homework.
  • Possess a level of English sufficient to follow the program.
  • Be ready to adhere to the bootcamp timeline.

Selection for Stages 2 and 3 will be based on students’ performance during Stage 1. Detailed candidate requirements are available on the bootcamp website.

Location and Logistics

The bootcamp will be held at two Ideas Academy campuses, both within walking distance from either Cochrane or Chan Sow Lin Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) underground station in Kuala Lumpur. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the campuses.

Application Process

The call for applications closes on May 31, 2024. After receiving applications, Octa will respond within a few working days. However, please note that applying does not guarantee participation.
