Nvidia and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Forge Partnership to Establish $200 Million AI Center in Central Java

Nvidia and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison are teaming up to build a $200 million AI center in Central Java, aimed at advancing technological innovation in Indonesia. The center, to be located in Surakarta city, will focus on telecommunication infrastructure and human resource development, contributing to the region’s AI ecosystem.


4 April 2024 – Nvidia, a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, a prominent telecommunications firm in Indonesia, have announced plans to collaborate on constructing a state-of-the-art AI center in Central Java. The project, estimated at $200 million, aims to bolster AI innovation and development in the region and is expected to encompass telecommunication infrastructure and human resource facilities, with Surakarta city designated as its location.

Communication Minister Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that discussions surrounding the AI center have been initiated, highlighting the potential significance of the facility in advancing technological capabilities within Indonesia. Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, also Indonesia’s vice president elect, expressed enthusiasm for the project, citing Surakarta’s readiness, skilled workforce, and robust 5G infrastructure as key factors in its selection as the center’s site.

While the investment plan has been communicated to Surakarta authorities, both Indosat and Nvidia are yet to offer official comments on the collaboration or the proposed AI center. – ref: Reuters
