NTT DATA Payment Services Launches Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia, Eliminating Need for Payment Terminals

NTT DATA Payment Services has introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia, enabling merchants to accept contactless payments without additional hardware. The solution enhances flexibility, security, and convenience for businesses of all sizes.


MALAYSIA, 23 APRIL 2026 – NTT DATA Payment Services has rolled out Tap to Pay on iPhone in Malaysia, offering businesses a new way to accept in-person contactless payments without the need for traditional payment terminals. The feature allows merchants to use only an iPhone and the ADAPTIS Tap to Pay iOS app to process transactions, streamlining payment acceptance across various business environments.

With this launch, merchants can accept contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets simply by prompting customers to hold their payment method near the iPhone. The transaction is completed באמצעות near-field communication (NFC) technology, ensuring a fast and seamless checkout experience.

The solution is designed with a strong focus on security and privacy. Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone leverages built-in security features to protect both business and customer data. Card numbers and transaction details are not stored on the device or Apple servers, reinforcing data ownership and confidentiality.

By removing the need for additional hardware, the solution allows businesses to expand their payment capabilities more easily. Merchants can accept payments at traditional counters, on the shop floor, at pop-up locations, or while on the move, improving operational flexibility and customer engagement.

Enoch Chhabra, Chief Executive Officer for Malaysia at NTT DATA Payment Services, highlighted the growing need for adaptable payment solutions, particularly for small and expanding businesses. He noted that the new offering enables merchants to start accepting payments quickly while delivering a secure and frictionless customer experience.

The setup process is straightforward, with merchants able to activate contactless payment acceptance within minutes using an iPhone 11 or later running the latest iOS version. The ADAPTIS Tap to Pay iOS app serves as the central platform for managing transactions.

This development reflects the broader shift toward mobile-first payment solutions, as businesses seek cost-effective and scalable ways to meet evolving consumer expectations in the digital economy.
