MR D.I.Y. brought together artists from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand for its first-ever Regional Art Competition themed “Identity & Diversity.” The event highlighted the region’s vibrant cultures and creativity, uniting communities through artistic expression.
MALAYSIA, 13 NOVEMBER 2025 – The colours and cultures of Southeast Asia came to life at MR D.I.Y. Plus, Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur, as MR D.I.Y. announced the winners of its inaugural Regional Art Competition themed “Identity & Diversity.” The event marked a major milestone in the brand’s long-standing commitment to nurturing artistic talent across the region.
The competition brought together gifted artists from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, creating a shared platform for regional creativity and cultural exchange. The accompanying MR D.I.Y. Regional Art Exhibition showcases the national winners from all three countries, each presenting their interpretation of identity, heritage, and diversity. Open to the public from 12 to 17 November 2025 at MR D.I.Y. Plus, Mid Valley, the exhibition offers visitors a vibrant journey through Southeast Asian storytelling.
A panel of nine esteemed judges from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia evaluated the artworks on 30 October 2025, based on creativity, originality, and interpretation of the theme. The Malaysian judges included Ivan Gabriel, Bingley Sim, and Liong Mei Yin. Representing Thailand were Vichaya Mukdamanee, Subhachog Jumsai Na Ayudhya, and Watjanasin Charuwattanakitti, while Indonesia’s panel comprised Ristyo Hartanto, Budhy Irawati, and Haryadi Tandio.
In the Public Category, Malaysia’s Mohd Al-Khuzairie won the grand prize for his evocative piece, In the Mood for Love: Time and Memory. The Educational Category grand prize went to Indonesia’s Diandra Lamees for her expressive artwork, Upacara Imlek Versiku.
MR D.I.Y. Group Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Ong, described the initiative as a celebration of shared regional identity. “This competition represents more than just art – it’s a celebration of who we are as a region. By connecting artists from different countries, we hope to inspire more creativity, understanding, and appreciation of the diverse cultures that make up Southeast Asia,” he said.
Since its launch in 2022, the MR D.I.Y. Art Competition has served as a platform to cultivate local artistic talent and promote inclusivity through art. The positive response from participants inspired the brand to expand the initiative beyond Malaysia, aligning with MR D.I.Y.’s regional growth. Through this program, MR D.I.Y. continues to champion art as a bridge for community connection, identity, and cultural pride across Southeast Asia.
