MOSTI Launches Pioneering Tech Hubs to Boost Malaysia’s Innovation and Economic Growth

MOSTI has launched the Industry Technology Innovation Centre, the Semiconductor Research Consortium, and Mimos Academy at Mimos Bhd to drive technological advancements and economic stability in Malaysia. These initiatives aim to enhance local innovation, reduce import reliance, and foster talent development, positioning Malaysia as a global technology leader.

1 July 2024 – The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has unveiled the Industry Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC), the Semiconductor Research Consortium, and Mimos Academy at Mimos Bhd in Kulim High-Tech Park, Kedah. These hubs aim to drive Malaysia’s technological progress and economic stability.

Advanced Sectoral Centres

The ITIC consists of four key centres:

  1. Mimos Academy: Focuses on the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector.
  2. Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI): Specialises in drone and robotic technology.
  3. Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High-Technology (MIGHT): Dedicated to Smart City Technology.
  4. Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA): Concentrates on aerospace.

The MIMOS ITIC emphasizes automated test equipment, supporting the E&E Roadmap 2021-2030, which aims to produce 40% high-value components locally.

MRANTI’s Role

MRANTI, formed by merging Technology Park Malaysia and the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre, will develop a drone and robotics innovation hub at ITIC, creating 1,500 high-skilled jobs.

New Talent Development

The Robotics Talent Development Academy (ROTDA) will be established to provide courses and professional programs in robotics and AI, fostering new talent.

MYSA’s Focus on Space Technology

MYSA will concentrate on space-related technology within ITIC, assessing local companies’ capabilities and procuring necessary systems to establish a sustainable space technology ecosystem.

Innovation and Talent via MIMOS Academy

ITIC, designed as an innovation landmark, houses MIMOS Academy and the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Technology Acceleration Programme, serving as practical training centres for startups and SMEs. The launch of MIMOS Academy supports continuous talent development, driving advancements in the E&E industry.
