VIETNAM: A research conducted on Vietnam’s e-commerce market shows e-commerce volume in the country was approximately US$300 million (RM928.05 million) in 2011 and is expected to grow at an average rate of 75 per cent per annum between 2011 and 2015 to hit US$2.8 billion (RM8.66 billion) by 2015, the Vietnam Briefing reported.
The growth of e-commerce in Vietnam is believed be contributed by the increase in Vietnamese income, number of Internet users and hours spent online among Vietnamese. According to Vietnam Briefing, the average income in Vietnam is expected to grow from US$570 (RM1,763.29) to more than US$820 (RM2,536.67). The number of internet users is expected to reach 37 million by 2016. Referring to a recent study by market research specialist Cimigo, the average Internet user in Vietnam spends about 130 minutes online per day which was tripled from the 43 minutes per day in 2008.
