MDEC’s Saya Digital Tour (JSD) in Johor Bahru aims to enhance digital skills among local communities, supporting the Johor state government’s Maju Johor 2030 initiative. The event includes various training programs, exhibitions, and activities to promote digital literacy and technology awareness.
30 July 2024 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the guidance of the Ministry of Digital (KD), is spearheading the Saya Digital Tour (JSD) at Angsana Mall in Johor Bahru, Johor. This two-day event, running from July 26 to 27, is anticipated to attract approximately 2,000 attendees.
Aligned with the Johor state government’s Maju Johor 2030 initiative, which aims to foster a resilient state economy and enhance the well-being of Johor’s citizens, JSD is designed to provide local communities with opportunities to develop their digital skills. This initiative is essential for creating a digitally literate society.
Launched in late 2020, the Saya Digital campaign seeks to elevate the digital proficiency of Malaysians, enabling them to navigate the challenges of an increasingly digital world. The campaign also aims to empower citizens to manage their living costs through digital platforms.
JSD focuses on four key areas: Digital Literacy, Digital Business, Digital Freelancing, and Digital Careers. These pillars target various groups, including the B40 community, unemployed graduates, senior citizens, people with disabilities, school and university students, and micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs.
The program includes initiatives such as eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker. The eUsahawan program has successfully trained 564,629 students from higher education institutions, technical and vocational education, and entrepreneurs nationwide, generating cumulative sales exceeding RM1.26 billion.
As of June 2024, JSD has visited 68 locations and trained 27,154 participants. MDEC aims to engage 40,000 participants across 31 locations by the end of this year.
Highlights of the event include sessions with MDEC and strategic partners, digital and cyber literacy clinics, training sessions, exhibition booths, lucky draws, and eSports competitions. Attendees will also benefit from sessions on robotics and AI technology in education and cybersecurity tips to avoid online scams.
The event in Johor Bahru was officiated by YB Tuan Aznan Bin Tamin, Chairman of the Johor State Education and Information Committee, and YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC. Strategic partners such as the Social Security Organization (PERKESO), TM-Unifi Business, and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also participated in the event.
