MDEC Opens Applications for 2024 Digital Content, Catalyst, and Export Grants to Boost Malaysia’s Digital Economy

MDEC has opened applications for the Digital Content Grant (DCG), Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG), and Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG) to support local innovation, digital content creation, and global expansion of Malaysian companies. These grants provide significant funding opportunities for eligible businesses and will remain open until fully committed.

10 September 2024 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), a key agency under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, has launched applications for three significant grants as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to advancing the nation’s digital economy. These grants, available from 9 September 2024, are designed to support the growth of digital content, drive innovation, and facilitate the global expansion of Malaysian companies. The three grants include the Digital Content Grant (DCG) 2024/2025, the Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG), and the Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG).

The Digital Content Grant (DCG) has played a pivotal role in promoting creative content in Malaysia since 2016. For the 2024/2025 period, it will continue to support animation, digital games, comics, and other creative technologies through three grant categories: Mini Grant, Prime Grant, and Marketing & Commercialisation Grant. Each is tailored to assist various stages of digital content production, with maximum funding ranging from RM150,000 to RM500,000 per project.

The Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG) aims to foster high-impact digital projects, offering up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs. Since 2021, the MDCG has empowered 59 companies, enabling innovative solutions like cloud-based defect management systems and manufacturing resource plans.

Similarly, the Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG) supports Malaysian companies’ expansion into international markets. With funding of up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs, the MDXG has facilitated ventures such as blockchain-based electric vehicle applications and 5G-powered IoT solutions. Both the MDCG and MDXG are available to companies with Malaysia Digital (MD) status, with MDEC encouraging businesses to attain this designation to benefit from strategic opportunities.

MDEC has scheduled multiple briefing sessions in September and October 2024 to provide more information to interested applicants. Applications will remain open until the funds are fully allocated. For details on eligibility and submission, visit MDEC’s official website.
