MDEC has unveiled three new financial incentive programmes worth RM5.7 million to support Malaysia’s digital creative industry, focusing on gaming, animation, and metaverse innovation. The initiative aims to enhance global competitiveness, nurture local talent, and strengthen IP development.
MALAYSIA, 12 APRIL 2025 – Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced a series of strategic incentive programmes totaling RM5.7 million to accelerate the growth of Malaysia’s digital creative industry. Targeting sectors such as gaming, animation, and the metaverse, the new funding aims to solidify Malaysia’s position as a global digital content hub.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil described the digital creative sector as a strategic economic driver, contributing RM87.25 billion in revenue and RM11.18 billion in export sales while creating over 11,000 high-value jobs since 2011.

The announcement was made during the Digital Creative Industry Engagement Session 2025, where three key funding initiatives were introduced:
🔹 Digital Games Testbed Programme (DGTP):
A RM3.5 million fund to empower at least five Malaysian game development companies, offering up to RM700,000 each. The programme supports IP expansion, genre innovation, and international collaborations to position Malaysia as a competitive game development hub.
🔹 Animation Shorts Challenge:
With a RM1.2 million allocation, this competition-based initiative supports 12 local animation creators in producing original animated shorts with high IP potential. Participants will receive expert mentorship to boost global market readiness and creative development.
🔹 Business in Metaverse Programme:
Designed to help 200 Malaysian businesses embrace metaverse technologies, this RM1 million programme offers up to RM5,000 per business. Participants will be supported in building virtual storefronts, gamified marketing experiences, and branded digital assets to increase customer engagement in the digital realm.
Anuar emphasized that these incentives are part of MDEC’s broader strategy to foster innovation, attract international investment, and create a thriving digital ecosystem in Malaysia.
