10 September 2024 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), under the purview of the Ministry of Digital, has hosted the 78th edition of the Saya Digital Tour (Jelajah Saya Digital or JSD) at Plaza Merdeka, Kuching, Sarawak. The two-day event, held from September 7 to 8, 2024, was supported by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and attracted approximately 2,500 visitors.
JSD is a continuation of the Saya Digital Campaign launched in 2020, aiming to enhance the digital skills of Malaysians in facing the digital economy. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Digital’s three core focuses: Digital Government, Digital Economy, and Digital Society. This program is part of the government’s efforts to empower citizens to cope with the rising cost of living while raising awareness about the importance of digital technology and smart lifestyle solutions.
The JSD program focuses on four main pillars: Saya Digital Literacy, Saya Digital Business, Saya Digital Freelance, and Saya Digital Career, benefiting target groups such as the B40 community, unemployed graduates, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWD), students, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). By seizing the opportunities provided, these groups can play a vital role in the growth of the nation’s digital economy.
This year, MDEC aims for 40,000 participants across 31 locations nationwide. So far, 37,891 people from across Malaysia have participated in both physical and online events, gaining valuable benefits.
Through JSD, MDEC has also implemented several other programs, including eUsahawan and MyDigitalMaker. The eUsahawan program has benefited 564,629 students from higher education institutions, TVET students, and entrepreneurs nationwide, generating a cumulative sales figure exceeding RM1.26 billion. Of that amount, 34,104 entrepreneurs from Sarawak alone have generated over RM51.63 million in cumulative sales. Meanwhile, the MyDigitalMaker program has impacted over 2.5 million school students across the country by engaging them in digital making activities.
Throughout JSD @ Kuching, various activities were organized to attract the younger generation, encouraging them to enhance their digital skills through productive video gaming. The event also featured practical demonstrations, knowledge-sharing sessions with video game industry experts, and live-streamed eSports programs involving more than 300 participants. Additionally, there were discussions on the latest trends in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business, attracting local entrepreneurs’ attention.
