MDEC and KPT Sign MoU to Boost Malaysia’s Digital Development

MDEC and KPT have signed an MoU to strengthen digital development in Malaysia through various collaborative initiatives, including enhancing student skills via the Premier Digital Tech Institution (PDTI) Tech Club. This partnership aims to bolster local digital talent and improve graduate employability in digital technology and entrepreneurship.


28 June 2024 – The Ministry of Digital, through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce collaboration in the nation’s digital development. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing local digital talent and improving the employability of graduates in the fields of digital technology and entrepreneurship.

The MoU encompasses various collaborative initiatives aimed at benefiting students, lecturers, and the entire higher education ecosystem in Malaysia. Key initiatives to be implemented include Training and Course Programs, Reskilling and Upskilling Training, Education and Professional Recognition Programs, Knowledge and Expertise Sharing, Exploration of New Technology Opportunities, Digital Freelance and Global Outsourcing Talent Initiatives, and e-Entrepreneurship Programs.

Additionally, MDEC and KPT have launched the Premier Digital Tech Institution (PDTI) Tech Club, focusing on enhancing student skills. For 2024, the PDTI Tech Club aims to benefit 5,000 students through practical experience, the latest technology skills, and learning from industry experts such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and IBM SkillBuild.

MDEC CEO Ts. Mahadhir Aziz stated, “As the primary agency shaping the nation’s digital transformation, MDEC has been collaborating with KPT since 2017. This partnership has also led to the establishment of Malaysia’s first Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). In addition to working with UTM, MDEC serves as an Industry Advisor to Polytechnics and Community Colleges. This reflects MDEC’s efforts to help KPT produce digital technology experts, aligning with Malaysia Digital (MD) strategic initiatives to position Malaysia as the ASEAN digital hub.”

The MoU signing ceremony, held at Nexus Ballroom 3, Bangsar South, was witnessed by YBhg Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, and YBrs. Tuan Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital, along with MDEC Chairman YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
