Mastercard is introducing AI-driven payment tools, consulting services, and global partnerships to make agentic commerce more secure, scalable, and accessible, setting new industry standards for intelligent transactions.

MALAYSIA, 11 SEPTEMBER 2025 – Mastercard is advancing its vision for AI-powered payments with new developer tools, expanded consulting services, and strategic collaborations with global technology and finance leaders. These initiatives aim to establish a trusted foundation for agentic commerce, where AI systems securely handle transactions on behalf of consumers.

The company is working with partners such as Google, Stripe, and Ant International’s Antom to make secure AI-driven shopping experiences widely accessible to digital merchants and platforms. By this holiday season, all U.S. Mastercard cardholders will be enabled for Mastercard Agent Pay, with global expansion to follow. Citi and U.S. Bank Mastercard customers will be the first to access the new AI-enabled shopping capabilities, supported by providers like PayOS, Firmly.AI, and Basis Theory.

To accelerate adoption, Mastercard is rolling out several innovations for developers and businesses:

  • Agent Toolkit on Mastercard Developers, offering structured, machine-readable API content for seamless integration with platforms like Claude, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot.
  • Agent Sign-Up for easy registration and access to AI-enabled Mastercard services.
  • Insight Tokens, providing governed and secure access to consumer-permissioned insights, already supported by partners such as SAP Concur.
  • Agentic Consulting Services to help issuers, acquirers, merchants, and AI enablers design intelligent shopping experiences.

Mastercard is also leveraging its experience in setting global standards for digital payments, including contactless and tokenization, to define secure frameworks for agentic transactions. In collaboration with the FIDO Alliance and its Payments Working Group, the company is helping develop verifiable credential standards that ensure every transaction is transparent, authenticated, and approved by the shopper.

“AI-powered payments aren’t just a trend — they’re a transformation,” said Craig Vosburg, chief services officer at Mastercard. “We’re building the infrastructure for intelligent transactions where AI agents act with trust, transparency, and precision.”

With infrastructure and standards already in place, Mastercard says its ecosystem is ready to support secure agentic transactions today and scale globally as adoption grows.
