A new Shopee Malaysia study reveals that 98% of shoppers have already started preparing for Raya 2025 as early as Q4 2024, driven by budget-conscious habits and trust in secure online platforms. Live commerce, flexible payments, and bulk buying for family gatherings are shaping a smarter, value-driven festive shopping experience.
MALAYSIA, 4 APRIL 2025 – Malaysian consumers are getting a head start on their Raya 2025 shopping, with a staggering 98% of buyers beginning their purchases as early as the fourth quarter of 2024, according to Shopee Malaysia’s Raya 2025 Buyer Trends Study. This shift reflects a growing culture of smart planning and spending, with many leveraging year-end promotions to stretch their ringgit further.
Conducted with 1,500 Shopee users, the study uncovers that seven in ten shoppers are keeping their Raya budgets below RM500, with half of them allocating between RM300 and RM500. These budget-conscious consumers are prioritising value by buying in bulk for family gatherings, festive gifting, and home upgrades—purchases that are often influenced by family size and cultural hosting responsibilities.
Tan Ming Kit, Head of Marketing and Business Intelligence at Shopee Malaysia, commented, “Malaysians are shopping smarter for Raya, planning earlier and maximising value through promotions, cashback, and flexible payment options. This shift underscores growing trust in Shopee’s secure and rewarding shopping experience.”
The platform’s secure shopping ecosystem has become a major confidence booster, with 75% of respondents citing Shopee Guarantee, flexible payment methods, and Shopee Mall as key reasons for their trust. Meanwhile, 25% highlighted convenience, product variety, and peer-driven insights as crucial to their decision-making process—often guided by seller ratings, affiliate content, and user reviews.
Live content is also playing a central role in festive purchasing. Four in five respondents turn to Shopee Live and Shopee Video to discover deals in real time, appreciating the interactive format that allows them to view products in action, access exclusive discounts, and get immediate answers from sellers. This marks a clear preference for authenticity, transparency, and community-driven shopping over traditional static content.
Fashion and beauty remain top categories for Raya, with 70% of shoppers purchasing traditional attire, accessories, and skincare products to look and feel their best during the festive season. Meanwhile, 20% focus on household items and festive hampers, and 10% are preparing for travel, gadgets, and automotive needs, signalling readiness for balik kampung trips and family holidays.
As digital retail continues to evolve, Shopee’s insights reflect how Malaysian shoppers are blending tradition with technology—seeking not only affordability and convenience but also assurance and real-time engagement in their festive shopping journeys.
