Kirin Holdings Company, Limited (Kirin) is poised to introduce a groundbreaking product in the Health Science domain – the Electric Salt Spoon, designed to enhance the salty and umami taste of low-sodium foods using electricity. This innovative tableware-type device, a result of collaboration with Meiji University’s Dr. Homei Miyashita Laboratory, will be available for a limited offering of 200 units on May 20, 2024, through Kirin’s official online store. Additionally, a select number of units will be sold at Hands Inc. stores starting in June.

Developed based on research presented at the 3rd Neurostimulation Interface Research Meeting in March 2023, the spoon is set to address the prevalent issue of excessive salt intake in Japan, where daily consumption exceeds the World Health Organization’s recommended levels.Aiming to cater to the evolving needs of consumers, Kirin’s Electric Salt Spoon seeks to revolutionize the culinary experience by providing a delicious solution to the dissatisfaction often associated with low-sodium foods. With plans for global expansion and further product development in the Health Science domain, Kirin remains committed to promoting healthier lifestyles through innovative solutions.
