Kaspersky has enhanced its Kaspersky Who Calls app by adding a feature that blocks calls from numbers not in the contact list, enhancing protection against spam, scams, and fraud. This new functionality, available in the paid version for Android users, aims to improve mobile privacy and security.
11 July 2024 – Kaspersky has bolstered its mobile security offerings by adding a new feature to the Kaspersky Who Calls app, designed to combat mobile spam, scams, and fraud. This latest functionality allows users to block incoming calls from any number not saved in their contact lists, further enhancing their protection against unwanted communication.
The Kaspersky Who Calls app not only blocks these calls but also alerts users to their origins, a feature particularly beneficial for seniors and young children who are more vulnerable to potential scammers. Phone scams remain a significant threat globally, with reports from countries such as Malaysia, the UK, Singapore, and Australia indicating that phone calls are among the top three tools used by scammers.
In light of these trends, Kaspersky Who Calls now includes the option to block calls from unknown numbers and hidden numbers, aiming to strengthen privacy and personal security on mobile devices. Once this feature is enabled, the app automatically blocks calls from unknown sources and immediately notifies the user. Users have the flexibility to turn these notifications on or off based on their preference. If a blocked number is associated with known entities like banks, medical centers, or consumer service companies, this information will be included in the notification, ensuring users remain informed about attempted contacts.
This new feature is available in the paid version of the Kaspersky Who Calls app and can be enabled by navigating to ‘Settings’ → ‘Incoming calls’ → ‘Spam categories’ within the app. Currently, this option is exclusive to the Android platform.
Marina Titova, Vice-President of Consumer Product Marketing at Kaspersky, commented, “With our latest update to the Kaspersky Who Calls app, we’re giving our customers the opportunity to limit undesirable calls and ensure that only familiar and trusted callers can reach them. Our focus remains on delivering practical, user-friendly solutions that enhance privacy control and keep everyday interactions secure and uninterrupted.”
