MALAYSIA, 27 AUGUST 2026 – Kuala Lumpur becomes a hub for regional digital creativity this September as Filamen presents IMMERSIO 2026: PASAR, the seventh edition of its new media art festival. Running from September 11 to 27, 2026, the festival explores the everyday Southeast Asian market, or pasar, using modern technology to reexamine cultural memories and regional habits.
The festival brings together over 100 artists and creative technologists from Southeast Asia and East Asia, featuring more than 70 digital and interactive installations, projections, visual works, and sculptures. Participating creators originate from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.
At the main exhibition hub at GMBB Level 5, curated by Koh Kai Ting, visitors can engage with around 45 artworks. The displays present unique regional themes, such as turning Indonesia’s gemstone trade into a playable video game, revisiting Singapore’s wet markets through fish-headed vendors in a virtual space, and presenting Malaysia’s iconic plastic drink knots as fine art.
Co-Founder of Filamen, Abdul Shakir, noted that the festival aims to take elements typically dismissed as chaotic or mundane—such as handwritten signs, vibrant colors, and market sounds—and present them in ways that surprise audiences.
Beyond GMBB, festival programming expands to Muzium Telekom to showcase emerging media works from students across institutions like MMU, UNIMAS, and The One Academy. Performance arts and artist sharing sessions will take place at REXKL during the closing weekend, while a separate family-oriented installation, Ombak KLCC, allows children to bring digital creations to life.
Ticket pricing for the main GMBB exhibition starts with early bird rates at RM6 through September 2, general admission at RM15, group passes at RM55, and multiple entry passes at RM65. Admission is free for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and children under 12.
