19 May 2024 – The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI) are set to host the third Asia Pacific (APAC) Domain Name System (DNS) Forum in Bali, Indonesia, from July 23 to 24, 2024. ICANN, a nonprofit organization coordinating the DNS, aims to ensure a global, interoperable, and secure Internet, while PANDI manages Indonesia’s country code top-level domain (.id).

Under the theme “Building Bridges: Strengthening Collaboration to Shape the Internet’s Future,” the forum will gather regional and international experts to explore enhanced cooperation in leveraging Internet opportunities and addressing challenges. With the DNS serving as the Internet’s technical backbone, collaboration among markets, technologies, and stakeholders is vital to uphold a globally interoperable Internet.

The expansion of the domain name sector is expected to unlock economic opportunities and bridge language barriers, facilitating connectivity for the unconnected. Discussions at the forum will focus on how the APAC region can harness these opportunities and contribute to digital transformation, alongside addressing the impact of legislative initiatives on the Internet and the importance of the multistakeholder model of Internet governance.

John Sihar Simanjuntak, President of PANDI Board, emphasized the significance of collaboration and engagement for the Internet’s future, highlighting discussions on the integration of Blockchain technology within the global Internet governance framework. The event has garnered support from the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Indonesia.

ICANN’s Vice President and Managing Director for APAC, Jia-Rong Low, expressed pride in bringing the APAC DNS Forum to Indonesia, aiming to analyze Internet opportunities and challenges for the region. The hybrid forum will be held at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, offering both in-person and virtual participation options.

Registration is open for the forum, with pre-event webinars scheduled in June and July to delve into themes relevant to the forum’s objectives.
