MALAYSIA, 6 NOVEMBER 2026 – HP Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously appointed former GSK chief executive Emma Walmsley as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 4, 2027. She will succeed Bruce Broussard, who has held the role of Interim CEO since February 2026. Simultaneously, Broussard will step into the position of Chair of the Board, taking over from Chip Bergh.
Walmsley comes to the technology giant with substantial executive experience across international scale and organizational transformation. She led biopharmaceutical heavyweight GSK as CEO from 2017 through late 2025, where she refocused the company on high-growth specialty medicines and vaccines, completed the spinoff of its consumer healthcare branch, and revitalized its research and development pipeline. In addition to a 17-year tenure leading major consumer brands at L’Oréal, Walmsley has served on the Board of Directors at Microsoft for seven years.
HP leadership identified Walmsley as the strategic fit required to harness opportunities as artificial intelligence shifts toward edge computing, reshaping workplace productivity and lifestyle tech worldwide. Interim CEO Bruce Broussard underscored that her track record in guiding organizations through major operational changes positions HP to capitalize on upcoming industry shifts and capture sustainable market expansion.
Reflecting on her appointment, Walmsley highlighted HP’s pivotal position in redefining the global future of work. She outlined priorities focused on leveraging innovation, accelerating AI-driven capabilities, and unlocking value across HP’s customer base, partners, and shareholders.
The executive transition also marks a leadership evolution on HP’s board. Retiring Chair Chip Bergh, who has served as board chair since 2017, praised Walmsley’s strategic vision and people-centered approach. Bergh noted that Broussard’s transition to the Chair position will provide crucial continuity, capital discipline, and guidance as HP enters this next operational chapter.
