HLIB Introduces Brokerage Fee Waiver on Shopee to Enhance Accessibility to Investments

Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) has introduced a brokerage fee waiver on Shopee, offering up to RM100 to new customers opening accounts, making it the first bank in Malaysia to do so on the platform. The move is part of HLIB’s commitment to improving accessibility and convenience to investment products, reflecting its efforts to meet customers where they are, particularly in the online space amidst the rise of e-commerce.


11 May 2024 – Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) is aiming to enhance accessibility to investments for its customers by offering a waiver in brokerage fees.

HLIB has announced that new customers can enjoy up to RM100 in brokerage fee waivers on Shopee, making it the first bank in Malaysia to do so on the popular online shopping platform.

The offer is available to the first 500 customers who open a new account with HLIB from now until July 22.

Lee Jim Leng, the group managing director and chief executive officer of HLIB, highlighted that the move to establish a presence on e-commerce platforms is a natural progression in the bank’s commitment to improving access and convenience to investment products.

“E-commerce and online shopping platforms have become increasingly prominent in Malaysians’ lives, especially after the Covid-19 lockdowns,” said Lee. “As a financial institution, we want to meet our customers where they are and make investing convenient, accessible, and seamless for all.”

Lee emphasized that establishing a presence on Shopee is a significant step forward for HLIB and demonstrates the bank’s commitment to enhancing accessibility to investments.

“HLIB hopes to continue growing our online presence and assisting more Malaysians in taking the first step on their investment and wealth management journeys,” he added.
