Google Wallet now supports Maybank credit and debit cards, enabling customers to make offline and online payments, including on platforms like Shopee. Maybank is offering a cashback promotion on the first Google Wallet transaction using its cards until July 8, 2024.
8 May 2024 – Google Wallet has expanded its services to include support for Maybank credit and debit cards, allowing customers of the local bank to add their cards for offline payments via NFC (Near Field Communication). This long-awaited addition comes after the contactless mobile payment service initially launched in Malaysia in November 2022, with limited support for local banks.
With the latest update, Maybank cardholders can now use Google Wallet for both offline and online payments, including transactions on platforms like Shopee. However, it’s worth noting that only cards under Visa and Mastercard are currently compatible with Google Wallet, excluding those under American Express.
To celebrate the inclusion of Maybank cards, the bank is offering a cashback promotion on the first Google Wallet transaction made using one of its cards. The cashback is capped at RM10 per customer and will be available until July 8, 2024. More information about the promotion’s terms and conditions can be found on Maybank’s FAQ page.
For Maybank customers looking to add their cards to Google Wallet, detailed instructions are available on the bank’s website. This move marks a significant step forward in providing more convenient and accessible digital payment options for Malaysian consumers. – ref: The Star
