(Nasdaq: EQIX) has announced the expanded availability of Microsoft Azure connectivity within its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia. The move reinforces Equinix’s cloud ecosystem in the region, giving enterprises the tools to build distributed, low-latency, and resilient digital infrastructure to support AI innovation, modern applications, and mission-critical workloads across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The expansion comes as Malaysia works toward its goal of becoming an AI Nation by 2030, backed by initiatives such as the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) and MyDIGITAL. The country secured RM87.4 billion in approved digital investments in 2025, fueled largely by growth in AI, data centers, cloud services, and big data. As hybrid multicloud adoption accelerates, demand for secure, low-latency cloud connectivity has become a key priority for organizations undergoing digital transformation.
Equinix operates one of Malaysia’s most interconnected cloud ecosystems, offering access to major cloud service providers including Microsoft Azure, Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud. This setup allows enterprises to design secure hybrid multicloud environments, improve application performance through private connectivity, strengthen network resilience, and deploy AI workloads closer to end users, while maintaining better control over data placement to meet regulatory requirements.

The announcement follows Equinix’s recent plans to build KL2, a new AI-ready IBX data center in Cyberjaya. Once fully developed, KL2 will offer capacity for more than 2,200 cabinets, supporting next-generation AI and hybrid multicloud workloads while reinforcing Equinix’s long-term investment in Malaysia’s digital economy.
