Ediya Coffee has signed a master franchise deal to open three outlets in Malaysia this year, marking its second international expansion. The Malaysian partner plans to open 200 outlets over the next five years to aid Ediya’s growth in Southeast Asia.
21 June 2024 – Ediya Coffee, South Korea’s third-largest coffee franchise by sales, has announced the signing of a master franchise agreement with a Malaysian company to establish three outlets in Malaysia this year, according to Yonhap news agency. This expansion marks Ediya’s second foray into the international market following the opening of its first overseas outlet in Guam last December.
The Malaysian partner, formed through a joint venture between a local restaurant franchise firm and a local distribution company, has ambitious plans to launch 200 Ediya outlets across Malaysia over the next five years. The names of the partnering companies have not been disclosed by Ediya.
Ediya Chairman Moon Chang-ki expressed optimism about the expansion, stating, “Our presence in Malaysia will help the company explore other Southeast Asian markets.”
Under the master franchise agreement, the master franchisor grants the master franchisee the rights to open franchise units and sub-franchise them to third parties within a specified area. Established in 2001, Ediya Coffee is a well-known, affordable coffee franchise that operates approximately 3,000 stores in South Korea, Asia’s fourth-largest economy.
