15 September 2023 – EdgePoint Infrastructure, an independent telecommunications infrastructure company headquartered in ASEAN, has entered into a strategic partnership with Sunway Group to upgrade the telecommunications infrastructure in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. This partnership, facilitated through EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity for residents, visitors, and businesses within the thriving urban center.
The collaborative effort will initially focus on key Sunway Group properties, including Sunway Pyramid, Malaysia’s largest themed mega mall, the adjacent Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, and the esteemed Sunway Medical Centre, the nation’s largest private hospital. EdgePoint will deploy state-of-the-art neutral hosted In-building Coverage (IBC) systems that are not only designed to improve existing mobile coverage but are also poised to seamlessly integrate with forthcoming 5G technology. This endeavor aligns with Sunway Group’s commitment to delivering uninterrupted connectivity to the annual influx of 42 million visitors to Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.
Muniff Kamaruddin, Chief Executive Officer of EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are pleased to be selected by Sunway Group as one of their preferred partners for In-Building Coverage (IBC) systems across its commercial properties, beginning with Sunway Pyramid. As an independent digital infrastructure company, EdgePoint has the operational readiness and financial capability for rolling out neutral IBC systems compatible with all Mobile Network Operators, in line with Sunway Group’s requirements. The success of this project with one of Southeast Asia’s leading conglomerates will further strengthen EdgePoint’s position as a next-generation infrastructure partner for corporations seeking to rise above the competition.”
Sunway Group recognizes the vital importance of seamless connectivity in the modern lifestyle, especially with the widespread adoption of e-wallets as a payment option. Anandan Balakrishnan, CEO of Sunway Digital Wave Sdn Bhd, commented, “At EdgePoint, we found a towerco partner that has the capacity to meet our exact requirements as well as the ability to onboard all Mobile Network Operators onto our communications infrastructure. Their industry insights, strong relationships, and analytics-backed in-house design team will help us expand enhanced telecommunications infrastructure to other Sunway-owned commercial properties in the coming years.”
This ambitious initiative builds upon Sunway’s ongoing digital transformation journey since 2000. The Sunway Group’s digital arm is committed to accelerating digital adoption across its diverse business divisions and further embedding technology into Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, setting the standard for Malaysia’s first integrated green city. Beyond its digital advancements, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur is also progressing toward the “15-minute city” model, enabling easy access to essential services and business premises within a 15-minute walk or bike ride.
