KUALA LUMPUR: E-Commerce has become popular marketing channel to merchants for their products and services recently and debit card also become one of the preferred payment tools for buyers’ to pay for their online purchases, according to Khairul Kamarudin, the business director of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB).
A programme was initiated by BIMB by using it branches to promote debit card to its customers and expecting the program can sign up 1 million debit cardholders by end of year 2012. “The bank has 850,000 debit cardholders now and issue on average 2,500 cards per day. We are confident to achieve the target set,” Khairul said.
