MALAYSIA, 24 AUGUST 2026 – CelcomDigi Berhad has upgraded its defensive infrastructure by deploying a network-level voice firewall designed to identify and flag suspicious calls in real time. The initiative introduces an immediate layer of protection for more than 20 million subscribers across Malaysia, targeting fraudulent activity before calls are even answered.
Built directly into the core network architecture, the underlying technology offers deep visibility into voice traffic. By analyzing call patterns and behavioral indicators with precision, the system filters out malicious attempts prior to reaching end-user devices. This network-grade protection complements CelcomDigi existing SMS firewall, which already intercepts dangerous text messages at the infrastructure level.
During an extensive pilot phase, the voice firewall identified 355 million malicious and suspicious call attempts, a total that included 217 million automated robocalls. Following a complete nationwide rollout, incoming calls flagged by the threat engine display a clear Suspected Scam alert on subscriber screens, enabling users to make safer choices.
Addressing the technological step forward, CelcomDigi Chief Technology Officer Kesavan Sivabalan noted that secure networks must evolve beyond speed and reliability to combat modern online risks actively. He emphasized that embedding intelligence into the core network allows the operator to intervene early, protecting subscribers before engagement occurs and reinforcing trust across digital services.
The deployment fits into the broader strategy of the company to combat cybercrime through its A.C.T. framework, which focuses on creating awareness, maintaining high internal compliance, supporting law enforcement agencies, and leveraging technical solutions. Alongside network safeguards, the operator continues its long-term digital safety push through the S.A.F.E. Internet program to educate and equip Malaysians against evolving digital threats.
