CelcomDigi, together with key government agencies, has launched Malaysia’s first AI-driven traffic intelligence platform to tackle congestion, road safety, and urban mobility. The pilot in Petaling Jaya marks a major step toward nationwide smart city adoption.
MALAYSIA, 19 SEPTEMBER 2025 – CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi), through its Innovation Centre, has entered into a landmark collaboration with MyDigital Corporation (MyDigital), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) to develop Malaysia’s first AI-powered traffic intelligence platform.

The initiative positions CelcomDigi as the first telecommunications company in Malaysia to deliver large-scale traffic intelligence solutions, supporting the nation’s Digital Economy Blueprint and smart city agenda. By integrating CelcomDigi’s advanced connectivity, 5G network, and AI expertise with MBPJ’s urban management systems, the partnership aims to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, enhance road safety, and support data-driven urban planning.
The pilot project will roll out in key areas of Petaling Jaya’s Damansara constituency, including PJ Sentral, SS2, and the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP). Powered by neural networks and advanced analytics, the platform will generate real-time insights on traffic conditions to enable:
- Smarter traffic light management with AI-powered predictions to reduce bottlenecks.
- Urban planning insights through data-driven infrastructure models.
- Dynamic road diversion systems for peak hours, emergencies, and construction.
The partnership was formalised at the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025, themed “AI Cities: Shaping Our Digital Future”, officiated by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital. Gobind hailed the initiative as a key milestone in Malaysia’s journey toward becoming an AI Nation, highlighting its role in making cities more sustainable, liveable, and efficient.
CelcomDigi’s Acting CEO, Albern Murty, emphasised the collaboration as a strong example of how industry and government can leverage technology to address urban challenges, with the pilot serving as a foundation for scaling nationwide. Petaling Jaya Mayor, Mohamad Zahri Samingon, expressed pride in being the first city to adopt the solution, calling it a transformative step toward smarter mobility for residents.
Beyond easing congestion, the initiative also strengthens Malaysia’s National Digital Network (JENDELA) by showcasing how connectivity and data can drive innovation. CelcomDigi and its partners plan to expand the AI-powered platform to major cities across the country, creating a nationwide ecosystem for intelligent transportation.
