CDL Academy and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia have signed a three-year MoU to strengthen talent development, applied learning, and sustainable construction practices in Malaysia’s engineering sector. The collaboration aims to equip students with industry-ready skills through training, internships, and innovation-led initiatives.
MALAYSIA, 16 JANUARY 2026 – CDL Academy Sdn. Bhd., the learning and development arm of YTL Cement Group, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to strengthen talent development, applied learning, and sustainable construction practices within Malaysia’s engineering and construction sector.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 9 January 2026 by UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim and CDL Academy Chairman Dato’ Sr. Mohd Zaid Zakaria, formalising an ongoing partnership between academia and industry. The agreement is aimed at enhancing industry exposure and practical experience for students, better preparing them for careers in the construction and engineering fields.
Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate on a range of initiatives including professional training programmes, student internships, academic exchanges, workshops, seminars, and innovation-driven projects. Key focus areas include green building materials, advanced construction technologies, forensic engineering, and cost management solutions aligned with industry needs.
UTM, widely recognised as Malaysia’s leading university for engineering, science, and technology, said the collaboration reflects its commitment to producing graduates equipped with real-world skills and practical exposure. By working closely with industry partners such as CDL Academy, the university aims to enhance research impact and ensure graduates can contribute effectively to national development.
Since its establishment in 2019, CDL Academy has conducted more than 100 seminars and learning engagements, benefiting over 10,000 participants across the construction and engineering ecosystem. The partnership with UTM expands these efforts, supporting the development of industry-ready graduates while addressing emerging demands in sustainable construction and advanced building technologies.
The MoU will remain in effect for three years, with an option for renewal. Dedicated coordinators from both organisations will oversee programme implementation to ensure measurable outcomes for students, researchers, and the broader construction industry.
