Brother Malaysia Partners with Sunway College to Empower Individuals with Disabilities through Sewing Initiative

Brother International Malaysia partners with Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub to support the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory, providing sewing machines and training to empower individuals with spastic disabilities. The initiative aims to foster creativity and self-reliance, creating opportunities for independence and skill development.


23 April 2024 – Brother International Malaysia, a renowned provider of innovative printing, labeling, and sewing solutions, has announced its support for the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory.

In collaboration with Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub, Brother Malaysia is sponsoring sewing machines and all necessary equipment for a home sewing room located within the premises of the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory building.

This partnership exemplifies Brother Malaysia’s commitment to social responsibility, combining Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub’s expertise in fashion design and education to empower individuals with spastic disabilities. The initiative aims to foster creativity, develop practical skills, and promote self-reliance among the participants.

The newly established home sewing machine room, equipped with Brother sewing machines, will provide the necessary tools for individuals to begin their sewing journey. Brother Malaysia and Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub will jointly conduct training sessions on sewing, explore sewing ideas, and provide sewing essentials to assist the association.

Furthermore, CHTNetwork and Fella Design Sdn Bhd are also part of this collaboration, sponsoring cash and raw materials for the sewing machine room efforts.

Brother Malaysia’s support extends beyond the donation of home sewing machines to ensuring a fully functional sewing room by supplying all necessary equipment and materials. This ensures that individuals involved in the training have everything they need to kickstart their sewing endeavors.

Mr. Tsutomu Takaki, Managing Director of Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, expressed the brand’s belief in providing opportunities for everyone to reach their full potential. “We are proud to empower and support the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory in achieving this goal. We extend our gratitude to Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub for partnering with us on this project. Their lecturers, students, and our staff are eager to support this initiative,” added Mr. Takaki.

Dato’ Hong Yee Keong, President of Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “This home sewing machine room will open up a world of possibilities for our children with cerebral palsy and their family members. Brother Malaysia and Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub have given hope to our children by imparting valuable skills that enable them to build independence.”

Speaking at the event, Augustine Wong, Director of Programme for Sunway College & Stylo, Fashion Design Technology Hub, emphasized the college’s commitment to making a positive social impact and providing students with opportunities to create positive changes in their communities.

Members of the association will receive training on basic sewing machine operation, seam sewing, zipper application, buttonhole creation, as well as intermediate-level training on pattern reading, fabric cutting, and working with different fabrics.
