BlackBerry Limited was awarded the Cyber Security (Service) Innovation Award at Malaysia’s Cyber Security Awards 2024, recognizing its efforts in strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity through its new Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and advanced security solutions.
13 August 2024 – BlackBerry Limited has been honored with the prestigious Cyber Security (Service) Innovation Award at Malaysia’s Cyber Security Awards 2024, held during the CyberDSA event in Kuala Lumpur on August 6th. The award, endorsed by Cybersecurity Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, recognizes BlackBerry’s unwavering commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s cybersecurity landscape. The award was presented by Dato’ Ts. Dr. Haji Amirudin Bin Abdul Wahab FASc, CEO of Cybersecurity Malaysia, in acknowledgment of BlackBerry’s contributions to building cyber-resilience and supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a secure digital nation.
The award evaluation focused on three key areas: product innovation, education, and service. BlackBerry’s recognition is attributed to its successful establishment of a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya, dedicated to training and upskilling the nation’s cyber workforce. This facility, combined with BlackBerry’s comprehensive cybersecurity solutions and services, addresses the diverse security needs of governments and businesses alike, protecting critical infrastructure, information, and devices used by roaming workforces globally.
YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, commended the organizations leading Malaysia’s cybersecurity advancements, stating, “Digital trust enhances security and resilience through collaborative efforts and shared threat intelligence. By combating misinformation, protecting privacy, and promoting social cohesion, digital trust contributes to a safer and more harmonious society.”
Since announcing its software and services agreement with the Malaysian Government in November 2023, BlackBerry has made significant strides in strengthening the country’s cybersecurity. The CCoE, which opened on March 26th, has since trained over 700 individuals and hosted numerous networking and knowledge-sharing events. BlackBerry has also partnered with internationally accredited training organizations, offered scholarships to women cyber leaders, and introduced the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Curriculum, a global first, aimed at equipping local businesses and government agencies with essential cybersecurity skills.
Tash Stamatelos, Vice President of APAC at BlackBerry, expressed pride in receiving the award, stating, “BlackBerry is immensely proud to receive the Cyber Security Service Innovation Award in recognition of our efforts to support Malaysian organizations bolster cyber-defenses and advance the digital economy. We sincerely thank Cybersecurity Malaysia and the Ministry of Digital for this honor. In collaboration with the government, private sector, and academia, BlackBerry remains steadfast in our mission to help train and upskill the nation’s cyber workforce at the Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and continue to deliver cybersecurity innovation and service excellence.”
