Vale and Mysteel are hosting the Asia Iron Ore Summit 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, marking the first time the event is held in Malaysia. The Summit will focus on key industry issues like decarbonization and sustainability, with participation from leading steel producers and mining companies.
21 August 2024 – Vale, a global leader in mining, is collaborating with Mysteel, a prominent Asian commodity media and data service provider, to host the Asia Iron Ore Summit (AIOS) in Kuala Lumpur for the first time. The Summit, which initially launched in Singapore in 2022, has quickly become a pivotal event for the iron ore industry in the Asia Pacific region.
The Asia Pacific region holds a crucial position in the global iron ore market, with China and India contributing over 60 percent of the world’s steel output last year. As a major player in this market, Vale, which has been operational in Malaysia since 2014, views the Summit as an opportunity to engage in vital discussions on the future of the iron ore and steel industry. Topics such as decarbonization and sustainability will be at the forefront. According to Mr. Leonardo Paiva, Vale’s Country Manager in Malaysia, “The steel industry is undergoing significant transformation, and we are dedicated to supporting sustainable regional growth through safe, reliable operations and innovative iron ore solutions.”
Vale’s Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT), a key distribution hub for iron ore, is integral to their strategy of providing client-focused solutions. Mr. Paiva emphasized that the Summit will showcase Vale’s commitment to creating sustainable value in the region’s iron ore and steel sectors, reinforcing the company’s substantial investments in Malaysia.
Mr. Zhang Yong, General Manager of Iron Ore and Vice President of Mysteel, highlighted Malaysia’s growing importance in the Southeast Asian iron ore and steel industry. “Organizing the Summit in Kuala Lumpur reflects the city’s emergence as a dynamic commercial hub with robust infrastructure and a vibrant cultural ecosystem,” he noted.
The Asia Iron Ore Summit 2024 will take place from October 22-24 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The event will feature distinguished speakers from leading steel producers, commodity traders, analysts, and major mining companies. Partners include Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), with co-hosts including the Metallurgical Council of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (MC-CCPIT), South East Asia Iron and Steel Institute (SEAISI), Malaysian Iron and Steel Industry Federation (MISIF), and Vale in Malaysia.
