United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will co-organize a workshop in Cebu, the Philippines on 10 and 11 November 2012, to bring senior policymakers from ten ASEAN countries to assess the e-commerce laws in the region and make recommendations on it to further its harmonization. The outcome of the workshop will be reported to the twelfth ASEAN Telecommunications Senior Officials Meeting (TELSOM) which begins on 12 November 2012 in Cebu, as recommendations for ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2015 and the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.
Besides e-commerce, the delegates will discuss the new legal and regulatory issues arising from evolving technologies and applications such as cloud computing and mobile commerce. The ASEAN/UNCTAD’s joint workshop is supported by the Government of the Philippines.
