AEON Bank has launched a Zakat payment feature on its mobile banking app, allowing customers to fulfil their Zakat obligations digitally during Ramadan. The service is powered by a partnership with Tulus Digital and connects users directly with authorised state Zakat authorities.
MALAYSIA, 5 MARCH 2026 – AEON Bank, Malaysia’s first digital Islamic bank, has launched a new Zakat feature on its mobile banking application, enabling Muslim customers to conveniently fulfil their Zakat obligations during the holy month of Ramadan.
The feature allows users to pay Zakat Fitrah and other types of Zakat directly through the app, providing a seamless and Shariah-compliant digital experience. The initiative is made possible through a strategic partnership with Tulus Digital, an Islamic social finance fintech platform that serves as an authorised agent for several state Zakat authorities.
Through the integration, customers can make Zakat payments linked to recognised institutions such as Pusat Pungutan Zakat MAIWP and Lembaga Zakat Selangor. The digital solution aims to bring Zakat payment directly to users’ smartphones while ensuring that contributions remain valid and compliant with Islamic principles.
According to AEON Bank Chief Executive Officer YM Raja Datin Paduka Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz, digital banking should not only help customers manage their finances but also support their lifestyle and personal values. She noted that enabling Zakat payments within the bank’s mobile app reflects the institution’s commitment to making religious obligations more convenient and stress-free, especially during Ramadan.
The Zakat feature supports 11 categories of contributions, including Zakat Fitrah, income-based Zakat, business Zakat, gold Zakat and contributions related to retirement savings such as KWSP. Each payment includes a built-in digital Aqad, or contract, ensuring the transaction remains Shariah-compliant.
Customers can complete the Zakat payment process in four steps: logging into the AEON Bank app, selecting the Zakat feature on the home screen, entering payment details such as the number of dependents or rice category for Zakat Fitrah, and confirming the transaction through a secure in-app authorisation process.
Once the payment is completed, users receive an in-app receipt along with an email notification from Tulus Digital. Official tax-deductible Zakat receipts issued by the relevant state authorities can also be accessed through their respective portals.
Ubaida Othman, Commercial Director of Tulus Digital, said the company’s focus is to enable secure and Shariah-guided digital payment solutions within the Islamic social finance ecosystem. Through API integrations and secure payment infrastructure, the platform facilitates settlement directly into institutional accounts of Zakat authorities and financial partners.
The launch of the Zakat feature strengthens AEON Bank’s digital utility services by combining financial services with Shariah obligations within a single platform. The service currently supports contributions to Lembaga Zakat Selangor and Pusat Pungutan Zakat MAIWP, with plans to progressively expand to other state Zakat authorities across Malaysia.
