Shoppers Can Now Shop and Get Unlimited Cashback from Over 500 Popular Online Stores Through ShopBack Mobile App

19 July 2016: ShopBack Malaysia, the top online Cashback platform in the country, today announces that its mobile app will be ready for Malaysian shoppers to download at iOS App Store and Google Play Store, starting from 19 July 2016.

In conjunction with the release of ShopBack mobile app, the Cashback platform will reward every shopper with an extra RM5 when they make a purchase at any of the 500 over partner stores via its app from 19-21 July 2016. In addition, 11 e-retailers such as Agoda, Foodpanda, Groupon, Hermo, Lazada, Qoo10, Zalora, etc will also join the celebration by giving away upsized Cashback, RM10 low price deals, RM5-RM20 off vouchers, as well as 40% discount promo codes.

“Cashback is really just ‘getting cash back’. Online Cashback functions differently from credit card Cashback. There is no cap limit and we offer shoppers up to 30% Cashback every time when they spend at any of our partner stores. It is easy to use and the Cashback savings can be transferred into their bank account after validation period,” says Sharmeen Looi, the Chief Operating Officer at ShopBack Malaysia.

The Cashback platform, which enables more than 300,000 users to shop and get unlimited Cashback every month, has paid out a total of RM5.4M to local shoppers since February 2015.

Cashback Trends in Malaysia

Looi expresses that 30% of the shoppers are from Klang Valley while another 70% are from the rest of Malaysia. Interestingly, they like to shop after lunch and after dinner, between 2pm-3pm and 9pm-10pm.

Based on the company’s data, shoppers mostly bought from Travel, Fashion, General Electronics and Household categories. Frequently purchased items include local hotel accommodations, baby diapers, mobile top-ups, Korean fashion and beauty products.

Moreover, the sales for F&B and Groceries is expected to pick up as leading brands like Tesco and Guardian have started to collaborate with ShopBack this year.

“We often get the question of where and how we get the money to pay users – it is actually a cut from our commissions. Normally advertisers won’t share their earnings, but this US originated triple-win model gives merit to all involved parties whereby shoppers, e-retailers, and ShopBack could all grow and thereafter sustain the development of e-commerce ecosystem hand in hand.”

“We value the notion and endeavour to enable Malaysians to shop smart and earn Cashback through daily purchases. The number of smartphone users in Malaysia is estimated to reach 11 million . It is a huge untapped population for us, and we are confident that ShopBack mobile app will be a strategic tool to bring online Cashback to more digital users in a faster way,” Looi added.

ShopBack Malaysia maintains a healthy 20% average month-on-month traffic growth in the first half of 2016, which reflects a steady increase in popularity of Cashback among local shoppers.

Other than Malaysia, ShopBack also has a presence in India, Indonesia, Philippines, and Singapore. It is not only the No.1 Cashback platform in Malaysia but also in the Southeast Asia region, delivering at least six orders for its partner stores every minute.
